You may be wondering why the American flag is put up on this post. Well, this is because the Monthly Prayer for July happens to fall on Independence Day, 4th of July!!!

The date was 4th July, 1977. The Americans and the Brits had been fighting the American Revolutionary War for a few years now. Then, Benjamin Franklin of Pennsylvania presented the Declaration of Independence to the British Government. During the signing, Benjamin must had been terrified that the Brits would not agree to the Declaration. He said out loud, "We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately". These famous words showed his faith in believing the freedom of America. "If America cannot attain freedom from Britain, then I would die trying to free her."

To his relieve, the Brits signed the Declaration of Independence. America was finally free! Oh how the Americans rejoiced and celebrated their freedom. To this day, America continues to celebrate this memorial event that brought freedom and peace to their land.

Like the Americans, we too must celebrate the freedom that the Lord our God gave us so many years ago upon the cross. We thank Jesus daily for making that ultimate sacrifice at the cross and setting his people free. Benjamin Franklin was like Jesus in a way, that he believed and had faith in his people and wanting to set his people free from the bondage of Britain. Jesus set us free from the bondage of Satan.

We can thank our Lord all we want, but we can never thank him enough. A better way the Lord wants us to thank Him is by praying for the lost. The truth is there are still people who do not know they are free from the bondage with Satan until they recognise the freedom that God so graciously gave them.

Thus, the theme for Monthly Prayer for the month of July is Watchmen on the Wall. We are told in the Bible to keep watch. Keep watch for the coming of the Lord, keep watch for the attack of Satan is silent, and keep watch for those who are still lost.

The Prayer Committee urges you to come and become Watchmen on the Wall. Let us be the Benjamin Franklin to the lost, guiding them towards freedom!!
